What you can do to reduce the impact of cleaning chemicals.

  1. Make your own cleaning products.

  2. Read the labels on cleaning supplies before buying them. Don’t use products that say "Danger," "Caution," or "Poison." Buy cleaning supplies that list all the ingredients to make sure that this product is safe. Avoid products with volatile organic compounds which may be found in aerosol-sprays and air fresheners.

  3. Let cleaning supply producers know you would like them to replace dangerous chemicals with safer ones.

  4. Never combine chemicals. Ammonia + Bleach = deadly fumes.

  5. Lobby your government to prevent companies from hiding the ingredients and to require dangerous chemicals to be replaced with safer chemicals.
